Edith Green-Wendell Wyatt Federal Building (EGWW)
Portland, OR

The modernization of the Edith Green-Wendell Wyatt Federal Building (EGWW) in downtown Portland, includes a blast resistant façade to provide protection for the buildings occupants. The curtain wall includes complex shading devices that transformed a 512,400 square foot, 18-story, 1974-vintage office building into a LEED Platinum cornerstone of the General Services Administration's (GSA's) green building portfolio. Larson Engineering was responsible for the structural design of the building's unique façade. The complex shading system provided a challenge to ensure this building was not only meeting the aesthetics and energy reduction requirements, but it was also safe for the occupants during an extreme event.
