Chicago O'Hare International Airport

Chicago O’Hare International Airport
Chicago, IL

Larson Engineering provided the structural design for this 65,000 square foot façade. The O’Hare Façade and Circulation Enhancement (FACE) project was necessary to update and enhance the airport’s structural integrity. The 40-foot high wall is fully supported by pre-tensioned cable strands at 10-foot intervals. These cable supports allow greater visual clarity between the departure curb and the check-in lobbies for better passenger orientation and easier airline identification.

Murphy/Jahn's concept for the O’Hare International Terminal expansion was to allow for greater movement and provide a newly renovated area for passenger viewing. This was achieved by creating a new façade on terminals 1, 2, and 3 in addition to installation of new flooring, ceilings, lighting and wall treatments in all public viewing areas.
