Freeborn Bank and Jacobsen Building
Albert Lea, MN
The Freeborn Bank and Jacobsen Buildings, originally constructed in 1922, were deteriorating and had been vacant for years. The city of Albert Lea wanted to save these historic buildings from demolition so they restored the exterior from top to bottom. The roof was replaced and redesigned with a roof top deck and skylight. The buildings' 14-foot high windows and brick/terra cotta façade were also replaced. These buildings are a highlight of Albert Lea's downtown revitalization initiative. From their effort to restore these unique buildings, they attracted a private developer that is planning residential units and a community space.
