This project began as a routine synthetic turf assignment. However, when the geotechnical investigation was completed, contaminated soil was encountered. With the assistance of both the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) the contaminated soils were remediated and the project moved forward.
The synthetic turf field is striped to primarily support soccer and has two half-sized soccer fields placed perpendicular to the main field. At the Southeast quadrant the turf is striped for little league baseball and softball, while the Northeast quadrant is striped for baseball.
Stormwater management was a major consideration to control both quantity and quality of stormwater entering the City of St. Paul’s stormwater system. Beneath the south end of the paved service drive is a large infiltration trench to accommodate the stormwater requirements.
Larson Engineering developed construction costs, conducted presentations to staff and prepared plans and specifications. Follow-up construction observation was performed and close-out documents were completed.
